This post was inspired by Hahnbee Choi at GSDstormy (seriously- check her out!!) buckle up and prepare yourself for all my raw feeding mistakes when I first started...
I love making organ soup for my crew. When you have more than 2 ferrets, it becomes increasingly difficult to ensure each ferret is eating an appropriate amount of each organ. Blending everything in the soup makes organs more palatable, and you can throw in foods they would normally turn their noses up to! I make organ soups twice a week. A balanced raw diet is nature's diet plan for ferrets. We know this by observing the ferret's oral structure and functions, gastric system, stomach pH, and more. Sadly, this diet is pretty frowned upon by the majority of conventional veterinarians, so the average pet owner may not realize that it's an option! Certainly not for ferrets. The big issue ferret owners have is a lack of ferret specific nutritional information, especially in regards to raw feeding. We are limited to a small handful of outdated forum pages, with a few active Facebook groups sprinkled in the mix. My goal with my content is to spread new educational information, and throughout my journey with my ferrets I have learned that a lot of what is said for raw fed dogs and cats, can also be applied to ferrets
Salmon oil is all the rage in the ferret world. It has been coined the "miracle treat" used for nail trimming, vet visits, and most commonly, a staple in the ferret's diet.
But is this oil really all that amazing? Should it be fed daily? |
