I feel like the majority of my audience understands that carnivores cannot healthily go vegan. But there are certainly communities out there that advocate feeding our domestic carnivores a vegan / plant based diet. This article is for them, as well as anyone curious as to exactly why, and how harmful a vegan diet can be for a carnivore.

Let's look at the worst food choices for ferrets. Additionally, there will be foods listed here that you may have thought were good, as well as foods that are not marketed for ferrets, but are still being fed to ferrets. I won't spoil anything just yet, but please do read the whole article, I think you'll be very surprised what you find on this list. These are in no order, and to keep it short, I'll only discuss the major issues in each food. Before I jump into the contents of this food, I urge you to educate yourself on Marshall animal mill. If you weren't already aware, the bulk of ferrets in the United States (and even some other countries!) originate from Marshall animal mill. They breed two lines of ferrets. The first line is dedicated to laboratory research. These ferrets (and other animals) are sold to laboratories all over the globe for animal testing. The second line is sold to pet stores like Petco, and many others.
Rat tail is an interesting phenomenon in which the ferret develops blocked pores (black heads) on the tail, preventing the growth of new fur. It usually occurs during the shedding seasons.
The big issue ferret owners have is a lack of ferret specific nutritional information, especially in regards to raw feeding. We are limited to a small handful of outdated forum pages, with a few active Facebook groups sprinkled in the mix. My goal with my content is to spread new educational information, and throughout my journey with my ferrets I have learned that a lot of what is said for raw fed dogs and cats, can also be applied to ferrets
If you're a ferret owner, you've probably heard of this brand. Everyone recommends it other ferret owners, large ferret "influencers", ferret knowledgeable vets... why is this food spoken so highly of in the ferret community?
Salmon oil is all the rage in the ferret world. It has been coined the "miracle treat" used for nail trimming, vet visits, and most commonly, a staple in the ferret's diet.
But is this oil really all that amazing? Should it be fed daily? It's important to understand the six nutrients we're directly providing when feeding a raw diet.
I can’t even count on my hands the amount of ferrets I have seen in just these past few months that have developed bladder stones. Almost all were developed due to diet and low water intake. This should not be happening at this frequency. Bladder stones almost always result in an expensive surgery for your fuzzy.
Due to the poor upbringing of most ferrets in the US, they can be subject to genetic disorders. One of which being Waardenburg Syndrome. It's also known as, a neural crest disorder. In a large Ferret Mill such as Marshall Farms, they do not care to test their ferrets for these illnesses, and carelessly breed them down generation to generation.
